Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets

Technology leadership and corporate ICT work across major Newcastle professional sporting organisations, including involvement in the Newcastle Knights private buyout period.

Role

CTO of the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets, with Reddog Technology contracted to provide technology leadership and services.

Highlights

  • Served as CTO of the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets.
  • Reddog Technology contracted to the clubs and other related organisations.
  • Involved in the Newcastle Knights AUD $100m private buyout period.
  • For Newcastle Jets, redesigned and replaced modern corporate ICT infrastructure and business systems.
  • Provided fractional CTO capability, support staff, infrastructure, hardware, software, and cloud systems.

The Context

Professional sporting organisations are complex operating environments. They have executives, players, coaches, sponsors, members, events, media, finance, administration, travel, and governance requirements, but often operate with lean corporate teams and high public pressure.

The Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets work sat at the intersection of technology, operations, executive leadership, and sport business complexity.

My Role

I was CTO of the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets, and my company Reddog Technology contracted to them and many other companies. That role included technology leadership, corporate ICT strategy, infrastructure decisions, support capability, and systems delivery.

At the Newcastle Knights, I was involved during the AUD $100m private buyout period. That should be presented as a serious transaction environment, not simply as generic IT support.

What Was Delivered

For the Newcastle Jets, the public TecHaus material describes a complete redesign and replacement of their ICT infrastructure with a new system. The work included fractional CTO services, ICT support staff, supporting infrastructure, hardware, software, and cloud infrastructure.

The broader achievement is that Reddog Technology provided executive-level technology capability to professional sport organisations during periods of scale, commercial pressure, and ownership complexity.
