Tonga Rugby League

A rapid corporate ICT build for a distributed professional sporting organisation operating across the Asia Pacific and Europe.

Role

Worked with Asia Pacific Rugby League to create corporate ICT structure for Tonga Rugby League.

The story

Problem
Professional organisation operating on personal devices — no corporate ICT, international travel breaking operations.
Constraint
Two weeks from approval to live — no appetite for a long transformation programme.
Decision
Standardise immediately on cloud collaboration stack — accept imperfection over paralysis.
Outcome
Corporate ICT structure live within the window; distributed team operational globally.

What mattered

  • Started working with Tonga Rugby League in July 2021.
  • Created the structure of a new ICT department within two weeks after approval.
  • Migrated the team onto modern cloud and collaboration systems.
  • Enabled a distributed team to work globally across travel and competitions.

The Starting Point

Tonga Rugby League had no corporate ICT infrastructure and had been operating on personal devices for several years. For a professional sporting organisation, that creates issues around collaboration, continuity, security, and administration.

The Build

The work created a corporate ICT structure using Microsoft Office 365, Wordpress, Microsoft Windows, Apple and Android mobile devices, and collaboration systems that allowed the team to work across the Asia Pacific region and while travelling internationally.
