Capital raising · Pivot strategy · Technology
TStreet
A language technology company repositioned toward translation marketing and support, with capital raised at increasing valuations.
Raise on the story you are becoming, not the product you are leaving.
Worked through the business, technology, patents, capital strategy, and pivot with the executive team.
The story
- Problem
- Language translation technology with strong IP but weak commercial traction — AI wave approaching.
- Constraint
- Raising on the old product story was possible but would cost credibility and dilution.
- Decision
- Raise capital on a pivot narrative — translation marketing and support — with patents and team repositioned.
- Outcome
- Capital raised at AUD $8m, then AUD $16m within months, funding the pivot.
What mattered
- Engagement ran from October 2021 to August 2023.
- Reviewed the business, executives, technology, and patents.
- Raised capital at an AUD $8 million valuation.
- Raised again a few months later at an AUD $16 million valuation.
- Used the capital to support a pivot into translation marketing and support.
The Challenge
TStreet had been operating for several years but had not found the commercial success it wanted. It was a language translation technology company before the current artificial intelligence wave made the future of translation technology obvious to a much wider market.
The Work
The work involved going through the business, talking to the existing executives, reviewing the technology and patents, identifying what had been missed, and supporting a commercial pivot.
Capital was raised at an AUD $8 million valuation, then again a few months later at an AUD $16 million valuation. That capital supported the pivot toward translation marketing and support.
